an organic paradise

We LOVED staying at Papalani Farm.. it was so much more than we expected.... the pictures don't do the property justice. There is so much variety on the farm... really fun gardens, fruit & nut trees, flowers, the food and fresh eggs from the chickens... The home was Peaceful, Clean, Spacious... we felt it was a great deal for the dollars spent. Nicely located for beaches, hiking, swimming with dolphins & going to the volcano. We hope to come back! Nikki was a gracious hostess while giving us our space... I would highly recommend a massage from her too!

  • Loved It

Staying at PapaLani Farm was a wonderful retreat from hectic world. Truly enjoyed eating the fresh, organic eggs, bananas, and variety of greens from the garden. Close enough to shopping when needed and an easy drive to the beach. Watching the sun come up and set were pretty awesome, too.

  • Laid-back Rural Getaway

Here's why I will remember our stay at Nikki's house with such fondness.
  • big, spacious comfortable rooms. 4 adults could work in the kitchen together. We all could do floor exercises in the livingroom together. The bedrooms were large enough to retreat to for quiet time and the beds were great.
  • the wonderful deck, with it's view over papaya, avocado, hibiscus, macadamia, etc. and a big BBQ to grill our dinners.
  • the veggie garden and chickens -the friendly cats who greeted us each day but respectfully declined indoor visits.
  • the outdoor shower*******
  • in the background, Nikki's cheerful, unassuming, helpful and friendly presence

This is not a 4 star hotel. It's a clean, funky, well-used and loved home with a great vibe. It is not convenient to malls, restaurants, resorts (those are an hour away). There are noisy frogs croaking all night long. But those are everywhere. The location gives easy access to south Kona and south island points of interest, but with it's easy to go up the Kona coast and do a Costco run too.

Would I go back? In a heartbeat!!!!!!!!

Beautiful place.

Wonderful organic farm. Great hostess. In addition to fully equipped and very clean accommodations, my wife and I took advantage of outdoor and very private massages and stimulating, informative conversations with hostess. We highly recommend this place.

Great Lessons in Sustainability

The listing for this property was very accurate and the photos were a good representation of the area and property. Nikki does a great job of keeping the property clean. She was also very knowledgeable about farming, the area and holistic healing. I'd recommend taking advantage of her skills as a masseuse.

The air at this elevation is cool in the evenings and good for sleeping but it was more than warm enough during the day. We used this home as a base for many adventures both north and south on the west coast. It is surprisingly close to Volcano National Park and South Point as well as Kona and Kohola. The close national park of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau was an excellent place to watch the sunset and have a picnic.

Adorable Farm House in the quiet of South Kona

If you are looking for space to spread out and a quiet private setting this farmhouse is where you want to be. An Eco-friendly farm with all the amenities! Close to activities in South Kona. After a day of site seeing or a day at the beach its a welcoming place to come home too! You can get fresh produce and fresh eggs right at you front door. The owner is a wonderful person and made us feel so at home. Not to mention that she is an amazing massage therapist and does massages right in her outdoor studio just steps away from your house. A perfect way to start or end any day at PapaLani Organic Farm.

Peaceful Country Farmhouse

Nikki’s farmhouse had everything we needed, along with a few nice surprises, to unwind, relax and enjoy our vacation. My wife and I spent two full weeks there over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays this year (2013/2014). We were delighted to discover that Nikki is an excellent masseuse with 20 years professional experience and we both had three massages each during our stay. To get a massage you simply walk out the back door and right into Nikki’s place where she has a massage table set up underneath an outdoor covered patio-type arrangement. The experience is quite unique because you’re on a massage table, outdoors in the tropics, listening to tropical birds and getting a 1st class massage. I had one massage during a tropical rainstorm and it was a blast! She also has a far infrared sauna that we used every morning.

The farmhouse itself was quite comfortable and has everything you need for an extended stay. I really enjoyed getting up every morning and feeding our leftover scraps to the chickens and saying hello to Whitey and Sweetpea (the two very friendly and cute farm cats). Nikki is also a very friendly and accommodating host whom we really enjoyed getting to know.

A few tips / recommendations:
  • Try the outdoor shower ... it's exhilarating
  • Get fresh organic eggs from Nikki
  • Buy fresh caught fish (mahi-mahi if delicious) and grill it on the propane grill (on the lanai)
  • Check out the local tavern on Saturday night for live entertainment (ask Nikki which tavern)
  • Highly recommend Super J's in Captain Cook for authentic and super yummy
  • Hawaiian Lau Lau (chicken or pork)
  • Take the one hour drive to the volcano national park and spend the day there

Bottom line, we arrived at Papalani stressed out, exhausted and over-worked (running a small business can suck it all out of you) and we left feeling rejuvenated, refreshed and quite happy and satisfied with everything Nikki and her farmhouse had to offer.

South Kona comfort
We only stayed 3 nights but would have liked to stay longer. The owner Nikki was very gracious and she literally has thought of everything a traveler could need. The home is well equipped, old fashioned, large and very comfortable. What she's been able to do with her plot of lava is truly awe inspiring. The beauty of the home and farm, the abundant garden and the healthy chicken eggs we had for breakfast are all demonstrative of an attentive, caring hand. We loved the easy access to south point and the southern Kona coast beaches.
